General fishing trip

General fishing trip

On a general fishing trip we have a great selection of fish to target all year round.  From October through untill the start of April we have a grrat run of codling and cod which provide great sport throughout winter.  We also see thornback rays throughout these months mixed in with the catch.  There is also normally a nice mix of whiting, dogfish and pouting to keep us busy.

Through the summer we see a run of thornbacks early on from April untill late June we get good numbers of these and in the later part of April and through may the smoothound move in.  We also have a good number of bass present in our area and these also show up on summer trips.  The smoothound are our main target species throughout the summer and grow well into double figures.from late may to july we catch tope. these small sharks are aggressive and strong. the thames estuary has held several tope records over the years as the big females which come here to have there young are often fit to burst so a record fish is not out of the question.
